Class 9A
National Encyclopaedia’s Knowledge Award, Crown Princess of Sweden, Victoria.
"The team behind the TV documentary Class 9A for its unique impact on the Swedish school system and for helping to create a positive and an open debate on good teaching methods. The programme has illustrated the role of both teachers and school management as well as the importance of listening to the pupils and allowing them to become involved in educational goals.”
Class 9A was broadcast on Swedish Television in autumn 2007 and followed by a million viewers over twelve weeks. The series was awarded several prizes, including the Kristallen prize for best documentary series and the National Encyclopaedia’s Knowledge Award.
Class 9A was a TV series where the ordinary teachers at Johannesskolan in Malmö were replaced for one term. The school had received criticism from the Swedish National Agency for Education for failing to reach goals and had been threatened with closure. The goal for the class was extremely high: to become one of the country’s three best. Igor figured in the series as the physical education teacher and as a mentor for the class.
